Google Tag Manager naming conventions

I was working through a client's GTM last week and it reminded me of why naming conventions are important. The container was a mess and it reminded me of the time my wife tried to find a file on my computer. The structure made sense to me, but she was baffled.

The structure of your Google Tag Manager account is exactly like a folder on your hard drive. If you only have a few things in it, you can set it up however you want and it won’t really matter. If, however, it has grown with an insufficient structure it quickly becomes impossible to find anything and you end up considering burning the entire thing down to the ground.

As part of this structure, you need a naming convention and then you need to stick to it - otherwise, you’ll never know where anything is. I've previously written about naming conventions inside of GTM, but I've updated my standards recently after working some great developers who expanded my knowledge on the subject.
